Denise De La CruzDENISE DE LA CRUZ

This reggae soul songbird describes her music as "food for the soul." Denise De La Cruz claims, "Writing and making music is as essential to me as breathing." Her audience and peers in the New York City music scene have often described her music as a breath of fresh air.   With songs like "Journey of Love (What is it?)”, "Come at Me with Open Arms” and “Jigsaw Woman”, it's pretty clear why—the messages are straight forward, enveloped in soulful catchy hooks that leave listeners feeling understood and good all over.

Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, De La Cruz has been honing her voice, melodies and Rhythms professionally since 1994 and has recently been creating quite the buzz in her hometown of New York City.

Denise De La Cruz's rich alto voice was first heard on the Spanish reggae song “Mi Amor es Tu Amor” released on Reggae Squeeze (1999, Checkmate Records).  Along with house producer/DJ Pete Moss she released the single, “Down 4 Me” (2002, Ovum Records).
Denise is no stranger to the stage. She's performed with many NYC- based bands, playing such venues as SOB's, Nell's, CBGB's, and the Knitting Factory.

Since forming her own band (aptly called “Denise De La Cruz Band”) she has been billed at the legendary Nuyorican Poet's Cafe, Bowery Poetry Club, Parkside Lounge, Westside Rhyme at Swift, and Planet Hollywood (NYC). Denise has opened up for Def Jam recording artist Foxy Brown, Elektra recording artist Rah Digga, legendary reggae singer Dobby Dobson, and Caribbean socca superstar, Arrow. Reggae soul is
a fusion of reggae rhythms and spiritual messages delivered in a soulful, blues-y, groove-driven style and wrapped up in hope. Reggae soul is the tapestry of music that has touched Denise and influenced her musical and spiritual vision.

A reflection of her soul.... Reggae soul. Keep your head up and ears open.... Denise De La Cruz is sure to make contact to pass the soul.
